Last years' winners LORDI brought Finland its first Eurovision Song Contest victory. This years's Serbian delegation won the contest for Serbia.

The Eurovision 2007 dates were set for May 10th (semi-finals) and May 12 (finals). The 2 nights took place at the Helsinki (Hartwall) Arena and were hosted by Jaana Pelkonen and Mikko Leppilampi. 42 Countries took part of this event. Some were already qualified due to their performance of last year (Top 10 of last year's contest) and some are always qualified (the so called Big 4: UK, France, Germany and Spain).
Only 10 additional countries made it to the finals and many brilliant artists were deceived - due to the votes. This year, the Eurovision family welcomed Czech Republic & Georgia as new participating members as well as the return of Austria and Hungary.

Television viewers from 42 countries voted for their favorite entries both in the Semi-Final as well as in the Final. Star Radio decided this year to make it short and clear in bringing you the selection of countries which deserved to be mentioned.

According to Star Radio's review for this 2007 edition, at first glance the quality seemed to be poor but as the selections were completed, the songs were getting better and better. So this year the show was globally ok as it had very nice songs.

This being said here are the selected songs by the jury of Star Radio for airplay:

Belarus - Dmitry Koldun - Work your magic (5/5)
Belgium - The Krazy Mess Groovers - Love Power (3/5)
Cyprus - Evridiki - Comme ci comme ca (4/5)
Denmark - DQ - Drama Queen (4/5)
Finland- Hanna Pakarinen- Leave me alone (5/5)
Greece - Sarbel - Yassou Maria (4/5)
Iceland - Eirikur Hauksson - Valentine Lost (5/5)
Netherlands - Edsilia Rombley - Nooit Meer Zonder Jou (Never Again Without You) (4/5)
Norway - Guri Schanke-Vena bailar comigo (come dance with me) (4/5)
Spain - Nash - I Love You (Mi Vida) (5/5)
Sweden - The Ark - The Worrying Kind (3/5)
Switzerland - DJ Bobo - Vampires Are Alive (3/5)
UK - Scooch - Flying The Flag (For You) (3/5)

Since April 2007, you can hear all of the above songs on Star Radio. Some members of the Jury would like to mention that the songs of: Andorra, Armenia, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Georgia, Germany, Latvia, Malta, Moldova, Russia and Turkey - are very good quality songs even if they did not make it into our selection. So as you see we do not share the same opinion of the TV voters as we did not include the winner's song from Serbia (our selection was made 1 month before the contest took place).

As every year since sometime now, we didn't need to speculate about who will be the winner, as we had the surprise of our lives! Marija Serifovic from Serbia won the contest. The Serbian delegation went back to Serbia, and preparations started for next year's Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade. Marija and her backing singers were treated like royalty, and in front of 30,000 cheering fans, Marija sang Molitva. Marija's win is a huge victory for the Balkan country, and it is the first time that an Ex-Yugoslavian country made it to the top in song contest history.

Remember in this same page what we said about the Serbian song: "The Serbian song is nice but not for radio airplay, the poor girl if she wins that's all she will get." And she won ;-)

As always, we should watch and enjoy the show, and keep our own opinions to us because it’s all matter of neighbors voting for each other and political issues. Too bad but we love the contest so let’s just face it!

See you next year in Belgrade (a very beautiful city).
